Flop OR go viral
The content format matters way more than people think.

We here in the business of personal branding LOVE content vehicles.
We’re basically obsessed with them.
And if you have no idea what I mean by “content vehicle,” it’s just the format your idea gets delivered in.
A listicle.
A founder story.
A case study.
A Google Doc screenshot.
A technical breakdown.
A video.
And this is important because a great idea can absolutely die in the wrong format.
I’ve seen the same core topic do nothing as a plain text post...
Then get repackaged into a screenshot, case study, or listicle and suddenly it takes off.
So when we build content systems, we don’t just ask:
“What should this person talk about?”
We also ask:
“What is the best vehicle for delivering this idea?”
1. Start with the pillar
First, you need the core topic.
If one of your pillars is paid acquisition, the idea might be:
“Why your CAC keeps increasing even when your ads are getting better.”
Cool.
That’s the topic.
Now you decide how to package it.
2. Pick the vehicle
That exact idea could become:
- a 7-point listicle
- a client case study
- a screenshot with commentary
- a technical breakdown
- a founder story
- a short video
The topic stays the same.
The experience of consuming it completely changes.
That’s why we keep a library of vehicles instead of writing everything the exact same way.
3. Match the vehicle to the idea
Some ideas need proof.
That might be a case study.
Some ideas need depth.
That might be a long-form breakdown.
Some ideas are simple and punchy.
That might be a listicle.
Some ideas need personality.
That might be a story.
The goal is to make the format help the idea instead of fighting it.
4. Let the data choose what stays
This is where it gets fun.
You publish.
Then you look at what happened.
> Which vehicles got saves?
> Which ones opened distribution?
> Which ones pulled the right people into the profile?
> Which ones created DMs, clicks, or booked calls?
Then you keep the combinations that work.
Topic + vehicle.
Not just “this topic worked.”
This topic worked in THIS format.
5. Build a vehicle library
Over time, you should have a bank of formats you know work for your account.
Then when you find a strong idea, you’re not staring at a blank doc trying to figure out how to write it.
You can immediately ask:
Should this be a story?
A case study?
A screenshot?
A listicle?
A technical breakdown?
That’s how one good idea can turn into five, ten, or twenty pieces without the account feeling repetitive.
And this is one of the biggest reasons content gets easier once you have a real system behind it.
You stop reinventing the FORMAT every time you have something to say.
You just choose the right vehicle.
