Your Personal Brand Is Not a Tactic

You are not here to repeat what works. You are here to create what is authentic to you.

P.S. If you read my last email from Omnisend…yes, we’re proud partners. Yes, they’re the best email platform on the market. Yes, you should check them out. Now, back to something deeper…

Most people treat their personal brand like some sort of marketing trick.

But a real personal brand that opens doors, pulls in clients, and builds trust/authority is not a tactic. It’s a reflection of how clearly you know yourself, and how generously you're willing to express that.

This is not about curating a highlight reel or forcing a fake persona. It’s about documenting your perspective, process, and proof in a way that people feel when they read it.

I’ve worked with so many founders who are afraid to be seen so they hide behind what they’re sure of like their product features, anonymous teams, and generic business accounts.

But visibility doesn’t always have to be built with the intent of vanity.

The business landscape is changing in ways most people haven't fully processed yet.

Trust in institutions is at historic lows. Trust in corporations? Even lower. But trust in individuals and their faces, voices, in humans who show up consistently with something real to sayis rising.

Look at the founders who have built the most defensible businesses in the last five years.

They're not hiding behind logos. They're out front. They're the voice. They're the vision.

They are themselves and that makes their personal brand magnetic.

Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, said: "No matter how brilliant your mind or strategy, if you're playing a solo game, you'll always lose out to a team."

Your personal brand is how you build that team.

It's how you attract:

  • Customers who already believe in your philosophy

  • Talent who want to work with you

  • Partners who reach out

  • Investors who feel like they already know your judgment

You don’t need to go viral by reducing yourself to antics to please the algorithms.

You can be findable by the right people, at the right time, with the right message.

All it takes is internalizing that every piece of content you put out…every post, every interview, every newsletter…isn't just a single impression. It's a deposit into a trust account.

And that trust account earns interest.

Once you've built genuine trust with an audience who has watched you show up consistently, say things that are useful, and demonstrate judgment over time then that trust becomes damn near unshakeable.

Your competitors can copy your product. They can undercut your price. They can outspend you on ads.

They cannot copy your trust.

That's yours.

Let me bring this back to where we started.

Your personal brand should optimize for resonance.

This is the art of strategy.

It's treating your personal brand as a creative practice. A practice of truth-telling. A practice of showing up with something to say that matters. A practice of being helpful.

It’s how I created my personal brand, it’s the practice I go back to while acquiring every client I have for my agency. You never go wrong by helping others.

You cannot bore people into trusting you. You cannot "best practices" your way into genuine connection.

You have to be value-maxxing.

It's already in you with the specific combination of experiences, insights, failures, and perspectives that make you you.

The work isn't to invent a persona.

It’s to excavate what's already there.

Once you do that, you’ll create a personal brand that is known, respected and trusted across your industry.
